RCMP confirm suspect dead in Joshua Billy homicide

Campbell River

The family of Joshua Billy received an update from the Campbell River RCMP informing them of the death of a suspect in his murder.

Campbell River Staff Sargent Troy Beauregard confirmed that investigators met with the Billy family March 11 to update them on the investigation.

“One suspect is deceased, but we will not be providing details,” Beauregard told Ha-Shilth-Sa.

On Oct. 18, 2014, Campbell River RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call and found Joshua Ryan Billy lying outside a residence on Alpine Street.

The 37-year-old father of six was deceased; his death ruled suspicious. The family confirmed that Billy had been beaten.

Petrina Hildebrand is the younger sister of Joshua Billy; she was at the March 11 meeting. She is relieved that progress is being made in the investigation and she hopes witnesses will feel safe enough to come forward with information.

Her family, she said, wants closure and hopes that violence of this nature will come to an end in Campbell River.
