Nuu-chah-nulth students research culture and heritage for annual fair

Port Alberni

The Alberni Valley Museum Regional Heritage Fair was held May 1 and May 2 at Echo Centre and the Alberni Valley Museum. The fair attracted participation from students from School District 70 and North Island. The heritage fair asks participants to take issues that are important to them, research and write about them. A number of Nuu-chah-nulth Nation students took part again this year.

The first day of the fair is judging day, where members of the community volunteer their time to come and interview students about their projects and judge them on a scoring system out of 50 points. The winners are announced the following day when the exhibits are open to the public. Students are on hand to answer questions about their projects.

About six of the top students in the upper grades will represent the Alberni Valley Regional Heritage Fair at the provincial heritage fair in the summer, to be held in Victoria July 2 to July 6.

Please see attached a list of the award-winners. Here’s a few photos that were taken by Shayne Morrow.
