Northern Region Games kicks off in Zeballos

Zeballos — 

The Nuu-chah-nulth Northern Region Games is being held in Zeballos this weekend, hosted by Ehattesaht Chenehkint.

Opening ceremonies were held at 10 this morning. Followed by a lunch of tacos and frybread. A highlight of the track and field events  held at the Zeballos baseball diamond was the tug-o-war event.

Basketball was held for ages 8 to 12 in the new Zeballos Elementary Secondary School.

The event will run until Aug. 5. The next three days will include an Iron man/woman contest, volleyball, more basketball, a Much Music Dance, a Triathlon, Fishing Derby, a treasure hunt and a bingo night.

The popular stick games, including Lahal, is scheduled for Sunday.
